Independent jewelry designer Lindsay Lewis took her first metalsmith classes at age 14. Over a decade later with a BFA from the School of the Art Institute under her belt, the Chicago maker launched an eponymous accessories line that marries brass with crystals in fresh sculptural ways.
Four Quick Facts About Lindsay Lewis of Lindsay Lewis Jewelry
1. I love the Art Deco and Art Nouveau periods of art history. I look at a lot of building ornament and architecture. The natural facets on crystals are inspiring. But most of my inspiration comes from the material I’m working with.
2. I use raw crystals from Brazil because of their amazing natural geometry and color.
3. I like to “sketch” out my new ideas by making models with metal. I can usually work out my ideas better three dimensionally than on paper. Sometimes I will just jump into experimenting with the metal and I’ll get some great designs that way.
4. I’d love to have an everyday collection and a one-of-a-kind art jewelry collection. For my next body of work, I’d like to have a condensed amount of designs with more customization to change metal type and stones. And I’d eventually like to have a fine jewelry line as well.
